Thank you for visiting our website and greetings from the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council. Thank you for visiting our website and greetings from the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council.
The Council is established by the Medical and Dental Practitioners Act Cap 272 of 1998 with the mandate to: Monitor and exercise general supervision and control over and maintenance of professional medical and dental educational standards, including continuing education; promote the maintenance and enforcement of professional medical and dental ethics; exercise disciplinary control over medical and dental practitioners; protect society from abuse of medical and dental care and research on human beings; advise and make recommendations to the Government on matters relating to the medical and dental professions; and to exercise any power and perform any duty authorized or required by this Act or any other law.
To fulfill the above mandate, ...the Council carries out a number of activities including: Inspection and supervision of medical and dental schools in Uganda and the East African Region; registration and licensing of national and foreign doctors who meet the requirements; investigation of complaints reported to the Council; Registration, Licensing and inspection of private health facilities.
In line with this, the Council has introduced online renewal of licenses for Ugandan Practitioners who are required to have at-least 48 CPD points on their online account which can be accessed on https://www.ehealthlicense.go.ug/ . The Practitioners are reminded that the renewal period commences on 30th October and ends on 31st December of each year beyond which a surcharge is paid and the CPD points accumulated during the year become invalid.
To the operators of the private health units, I urge you to do self-assessment of your units using the “Self-Regulatory Quality Improvement system (SQIS) tool which can be accessed from the Google play store through (SQIS Plus) or http://sqis.health.go.ug/ and implement the quality improvement plans issued by the system following the assessment in order to meet the quality-of-care regulatory standards.
